Journalism. Food Writing. Editing.

I’m a journalist, editor, and radio producer who looks at where food and culture intersect, and the stories found within those places.

My first book, Pantry and Palate: Remembering and Rediscovering Acadian Food, was shortlisted for the Taste Canada Awards in 2018, and was featured in outlets across Canada, such as The Globe and Mail, CBC Radio’s The Next Chapter, and CTV’s The Social.

I’ve taught journalism at University of King’s College, as well as classes on food writing for clients such as the Writers Federation of Nova Scotia.  I’ve written for The Globe and Mail, The National Post, The Huffington Post, Xtra!, Canadian Living, and more. I produce radio in both English and French for CBC and Radio-Canada, and work as a weekly columnist for the R-C’s daily morning show here in Nova Scotia, Le Réveil. I also currently work as an acquisitions editor in non-fiction at Goose Lane Editions, Canada’s oldest independent book publisher.

Outside of my own writing, I work as a developmental and substantive editor. I’ve edited books that deal with everything from queer archives to walking the camino in Spain, from the collapse of the cod industry in Newfoundland to cookbooks about refugees cooking in settlement camps.

I’ve previously been a cookbook and food writing judge for the James Beard Awards, the International Association of Culinary Professionals Awards, and the Taste Canada Awards. I’ve also been a programmer for various culinary festivals across Canada.

I have a great love for whole grain baking, all things pomological, archival materials, and a mild obsession with cookbooks. You can follow me on Twitter and on Instagram, or contact me via email
